How Many Times Is PET Used?
Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) is characterized by being a transparent, lightweight and safe plastic to transport. Its versatility makes it the favorite of industries to manufacture different products.
We must ensure that our bottle is made of PET material, we can verify it with the triangle symbol with arrows that is regularly found at the bottom of the container, with the number 1.
It is recommended to only reuse bottles marked as PET 1, which reflects that it does not release any toxic substance with use. However, it is preferable that it is only refilled 1 to 2 times for hygiene reasons.
There are containers that contain bisphenol (BPA), a material that without proper care can release chemical substances when exposed to the sun. For this reason it is very important to verify what material our bottle is made of.
Once the container has been discarded, it is processed in a recycling facility, where it can be recycled between 6 and 8 times. To maintain its properties, active agents are added; these are responsible for providing resistance and durability to the container.
What Are the Benefits of Reusing PET?
By reusing PET bottles, we promote the circular economy. It consists of reducing plastic waste while producing goods and services (new jobs for truck transportation, classification and waste treatment).
In addition to having advantages such as: conservation of raw materials, reducing energy consumption and producing lower amounts of CO2 gas emissions.
What Other Plastics Can Be Recycled?
